Sun City Independent (SCI) is an indoor marching percussion ensemble created to provide young musicians the opportunity to perform at the highest level. SCI performs in Winter Guard International Sport of the Arts classified in Independent Open Class.
Since its founding in 2018, SCI has proven to be successful. In its debut season, SCI won first place in the Independent A Class at the WGAZ Contest. The following year, SCI defended the first place title. We also won first place at the WGI Phoenix Regional in the Independent A Class.
In 2020, SCI competed in Open Class and placed third at the WGI Phoenix Regional. After the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic, SCI’s 2020 season was cut short. Despite the odds, SCI returned in 2022 under new direction, competing in Independent A class once again. They competed locally and regained their first place title in their division at the WGI Phoenix regional!
The 2023 season was SCI’s most historic one yet. SCI was placed into Open class mid-season, which proved to be challenging. However, SCI triumphed by not only making a first appearance at WGI Championships in Dayton, Ohio, but also securing a place in semi-finals! We were so excited to showcase El Paso for the first time ever. We cannot wait to be back again and keep making history!
